Did you have your portrait drawn on the Victory Sail?

Writer's picture: Pete CodlingPete Codling

I need your Encyclopeadia entries for the CROWD drawing! Book to be published this summer.

If you came into my studio for your portrait or sponsored one, and you have a portrait on the Victory sail, it is now time to help me put the encyclopedia together. I need you to write a short biography of up to 200 words max.

The emphasis should be your connection to Portsmouth, using up to four paragraphs. Try to use an encyclopedia-type style of facts and useful reference information. It can be written in the first or second person. It is your story.

Be conscious of not giving away too much personal data; for example, I only need your year of birth and basic facts i.e Pete Codling, 1969, Artist, born in St Mary's, went o St Edmund's School and University of Portsmouth, lives in Castle Road Southsea. Double-check facts and ask a friend to proof read. Get permission if mentioning another living person like friend or family member, if relevant to your story.

I will also edit but would like to keep this to a minimum due to the numbers, ~860 people, and other local stories. I reserve the right to edit as necessary for style, content or grammar. Your name will have a grid reference and number to locate you on the drawing.

Play up your Pompey cred. This is both a depiction of the city and a reflection of yourself. Be sure to mention if your family has intriguing local historical ties, even if they aren't well-known. They might have contributed to a major infrastructure project or local business, served in the military here, performed a heroic act, been an important politician, or played football for PFC, for example.

Please email these to me as a Word Doc by the end of February if possible. I will obviously have to cut off at some point as we need to edit and go to print for the summer.
